Our excellence in design and our passion for complete service are what drive us forward.

Our commitment to our clients is what keeps Harrison Woodfield Architects Inc. firmly established. We think differently, this paired with continuing education puts us on the cutting edge in providing creative solutions and ideas that will marry your vision to the site. Our designs are intended to reflect your personality, not ours, and to be your contribution to the architectural heritage of our time, whether in small or large ways.

We truly believe homes are ‘inhabited sculptures’ like Brancusi so eloquently described architecture, this so perfectly expresses our goal as we create living spaces for our clients.

Sara Harrison Woodfield

Sara Harrison Woodfield has been living in Sonoma County for more than 27 years. She is the principal architect and President of Harrison Woodfield Architects, Inc. She has an extensive background and passion for education, architecture, and travel. Sara has, since 1991, built a successful architectural firm.

Her practice is grounded on two principles:

  1. To personally work with clients to understand, draw out and develop their ideas and style, and
  2. To delicately merge the building to its site.

The site location is the starting point of any design – either urban or rural – and it is our determination to complement that setting aesthetically with appropriate structures while making the most of views, solar orientation, natural features, weather patterns and so on. Her resourceful, energetic and charming personality has built a superb reputation within her community in the premium wine country of California.

Sara has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology from Arizona State University, a Master’s degree in Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles, and subsequently studied architecture extensively in Italy and the Far East. She continues to keep up with architectural education and travel, as well as the developing technologies of our time.

“We make a special effort to use sustainable methods and materials wherever possible, and are members of the U.S. Green Building Council, and California’s Build it Green.” Sara is a Certified Green Building Professional and is in the process of becoming Leed Certified in the Leed for Homes program.

While in Los Angeles Sara worked for a prominent firm, specializing in multi-family housing and mixed-use development, and later moved to St. Louis where she was a designer in the head office of one of the largest architectural firms in the world. There she worked on a wide range of national and international projects including planned communities, hotels, offices, resorts and spas, for which she visited the historic spas of Germany, Switzerland, and France.

For several years Sara was on the Board of the Northern California Redwood Empire chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was the first woman president in 1997. For sixteen years she has been on the architectural design review board of the premier estate development in Sonoma County and for several years was a leader in City Vision, an AIA supported program to improve downtown Santa Rosa. She is on the Board of Directors of the Santa Rosa Symphony, and has been Chair of several committees, for 2016 and 2017, Sara was Chairman of the Symphony Board of Directors.
