This modest country home was built above a vineyard, to provide housing for the vineyard manager. It is constructed on a small bench at the foot of a slope, which required extensive stabilization prior to building. Valuable planting acreage was thus preserved, but it was challenging to fit the 2800 square foot house, separate two car garage and gardens on the site. The raised lot suggested keeping the roof profile low, tucking two bedrooms and two baths under the low-slung roof. The distinctive front porch wraps around the entry area, outside the living room, and connects to the master bedroom. The kitchen opens to the dining room and the open two-story living room with trusses and a high triangular window wall. A back porch leads to a mudroom for ease of country living. A spacious, light office overlooks the back garden.
