The challenge at this Pacific coast project was the need to fit as much square footage as possible into this building on a very tight infill lot, and gain a view of the ocean, which was off at an angle to the front of the building. In this area with strict Homeowners Association design review requirements, the solution was to cantilever part of the front and side of the building over the driveway area, and set three pairs of curved windows oriented towards the magnificent ocean view. The cantilevering of the main living room at the front, combined with placing the garage at an angle to the street, draws the eye naturally to the interesting upper part of the house and minimizes the visual impact of the garage.
